JEAN MARIE RIVER NEWS
NOVEMBER 2008 New Staff Housing in JMR
Jean Marie River First Nation purchased two mobile homes for staff housing. There is lots that can be done in JMR,
but recruiting staff is difficult when there is no housing for them. A positive building block for future growth.

OCTOBER 2008 2009 JMR Family Reunion & Annual General Meeting Starts July 31, 2009
To all members of Jean Marie River First Nation,
Jean Marie River First Nation’s Family Reunion generally happens every ten (10) years. Our last reunion was held during the week of July the 4th 2004. Due to the fact that there’s only four of our senior elders with us now, Jean Marie River First Nation felt the importance of having a Family Reunion every five (5) years beginning the summer of 2009, instead of the usual ten year interval. In addition, the JMR Family Reunion will be back to back with the JMR Annual General Meeting for those years. It is the administrative decision to start working on the ‘Family Reunion 2009’ at a leisurely pace and spread the workload over the months leading up to the actual days of the reunion thus eliminating last minute financial pressure. Since the age of our senior elders was the inspiration to host a Family Reunion in 2009, we really should dedicate this reunion to our senior elders and do something very special for them. At this time, administration is looking for your input on activities and how best combine with the AGM. If you have any suggestions, you can email Margaret Ireland, or Tammy Neal, or they can also be reached at 1(867)809-2000.
SEPTEMBER 2008
JMR Sawmill Improvements Project JMR Sawmill began a 7 week Sawmill Improvements Project on Sept 15, 2008. The intent of the project is to build a more efficient and effective sawmill operation. A representative from Forintek, Denis Gagne, will be observing and providing recommendations for improvement. The project was made possible by Environment and Natural Resources (ENR), First Nations Forestry Program (FNFP), Industry Tourism and Investment (ITI), The Department of Indian and Northern Affairs (DIAND), and Jean Marie River First Nation (JMRFN).
